As the sun is full of light,

the ocean full of water,

Heaven full of glory, so may my heart be full of thee.

Vain are all divine purposes of love

and redemption wrought by Jesus

except thou work within,

regeneration by thy power,

giving me eyes to see Jesus.

showing me the realities of the unseen world.

GIve me thyself without measure,

as an unimpaired fountain,

as inexhaustible riches.

I bewail my coldness, poverty, emptiness,

imperfect vision, languid service,

prayerless prayers, praiseless praise.

Suffer me not to grieve or resist thee.

Come as power,

to expel every rebel lust, to reign supreme and keep me thine;

Come as teacher,

leading me into all truth, filling me with all understanding;

Come as love,

that I may adore the Father, and love him as my all;

Come as joy,

to dwell in me, move in me, animate me;

Come as light,

illuminating the Scripture, moulding me in its laws;

Come as sanctifier,

body, soul and spirit wholly thine;

Come as helper,

with strength to bless and keep, directing my every step;

Come as beautifier,

bringing order out of confusion, loveliness out of chaos.

Magnify to me thy glory by being magnified in me, and make me redolent of thy fragrance.

"Who indeed, after reflecting upon his own weakness, would venture to attribute his purity and..."

“Who indeed, after reflecting upon his own weakness, would venture to attribute his purity and integrity to his own strength?”

- Augustine

good listening.

good listening.

"O my God, I bid farewell to sin by clinging to his cross, hiding in his wounds, and sheltering in..."

“O my God, I bid farewell to sin by clinging to his cross, hiding in his wounds, and sheltering in his side.”

“I am a Man”

Strength, beauty, intelligence — all natural gifts received at birth — are self-evidently qualities, but not on a moral plane. You can use your strength, your beauty or your intelligence to commit the most wicked crime, and you demonstrate by this alone that there is nothing inherently virtuous about natural gifts. Therefore, you can choose what use to make of them, whether good or bad, but it is the use that is moral or immoral, not the gifts themselves.”

- Luc Ferry, A Brief History of Thought

tastefullyoffensive:

I don’t think Eliot’s ever out up a video I didn’t thoroughly enjoy. Eliot, man…you’re a huge inspiration. You remind me why I got into filmmaking in the first place, why I love doing what I do. Telling stories, and doing what we can with what we have.

If you’re on board with the message in the film above, read this…seriously read it now.

In all honesty it has been excruciatingly painful to patiently wait for what he has coming.

During this time there has been two prevailing attitudes towards what he has doing. Each attitude has a biproduct, one negative and one positive. In one corner there is impatience. Impatience brings forth many different emotions in me. The most deadly of all the emotions that come forth is doubt.

Doubt creates an irreverent attitude towards God and his plans. Rather than readying my heart for the days to come I ask “why?” I challenge God and dishonor him by questioning his intentions with me during this time. Obviously the sin is apparent in this situation and repentance is necessary.

More positively, the other emotion is anticipation. Seeing God as the creator and orchestrator of all things simply gives me an attitude of anticipation. Knowing, full well, that God is perfectly good and is using this time to prepare me for the days to come gives me a positive outlook on what is coming. It drives me deeper into commitment to honor him.

These emotions may, at times, seem uncontrollable. I have no formula to offer that will prevent you from falling into impatience but the knowledge that times of trial will come during stillness is power. Realizing that God is seated upon his throne, still in control of everything simply comforts the heart.

Two things to keep in mind during these times are:

“Circumstances do not cause sin, they reveal sin.”

-Dave Russell

“Be still and know that I am God.

I will be exalted in the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!”

It’s easy to envision the life we will lead. But, when we envision the future do we ever think about our relationship with God and what part he will play?

Today I was reminded after months of seeking a job that my planning and goal setting was without God. As I imagined my apartment, in downtown, six months from now I made no effort to think about how I would be serving God or where he might want me to go. The effects of this pattern of thinking have been detrimental. Church has only become a mere acknowledgement that I want God to be there when I am in need, and while I am busy looking for a job and planning for the future I want him to simply look on and make sure all the pieces fall into place.

It is almost natural to place ourselves in the center of it all, thinking that what is going on is done for our good. We were never given a promise that things would align with out desires. God is moving us around, placing us strategically in places where we may flourish for His good, not our own. He wants us to flourish because He love us. He knows that when we flourish at his hand we will find true, perfect happiness because of the consistency of care and love that overflows from Him.

So as you plan, hope, and set goals for the future remember that God has something in store. It is not proper to peer into the unknown and demand what we cannot even begin to fathom. Ask the all-knowing God to be apart of what you cannot see or even begin to know. There is great comfort that the great Orchestrator of the universe is by your side as you step into the unknown.
